Chapter and Verse Online: Bibles and Bible Studies for the Internet

Romans - read Paul's letter to the church at Rome, in a version especially designed for the Internet

Paul wrote his book as a message for everyone in the church - whether they were Jewish or not.

Paul was Jewish, and was an expert in God's law. Many Jewish people believed that if they kept the law, God would save them. But Paul taught that God wants people to trust Jesus to save them from their sins and to give them peace with God. So Paul explains why the law does not save people. He tells the church what the law is there to do and then he explains the good news.

The good news is that Jesus saves people from their sins and makes them friends with God. God sent Jesus into the world. Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins. In that way, God does not ask us to pay for our sins when we give ourselves to Jesus and follow him.
