SPECIAL EVENTS COMING SOON!
Every service is special at Stockport Elim. At each service, there is an opportunity for you to meet with God as we pray and praise God together. And everyone is welcome. We often have special preachers and visiting ministries from this country and abroad. Please join us. Forthcoming events at our church are listed below:-
Our Sunday services
During the Summer months, we are not holding a Sunday evening service. Instead, there will be an informal group meeting for new Christians on Sunday afternoons. That meeting is led by Linda and Ken.
So, over the Summer, our main Sunday services will be at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.:
The 10 a.m. service is a communion service - a time for prayer, worship and the breaking of bread. People who attend this service usually stay for the 11 a.m. service too.
The 11 a.m. service is our main service each Sunday. It is a family service, with worship followed by a sermon or Bible Study (and usually, a separate Jesus Club for the children).

Stockport Elim Church is a mainstream Christian church that believes the Bible. As a Pentecostal church, we teach that Jesus is:-
Our saviour. He died to suffer the punishment for our sins, that is, for the wrong things that we all have done against God. The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 NIV).
Our healer. Just as Jesus worked many miracles of healing during his ministry on earth, he still heals people today. We are pleased to pray with or for anyone who needs God's help or healing. The Bible says, 'But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.' (Isaiah 53:5 NIV).
Our Baptiser in the Holy Spirit. God gives to us his Holy Spirit to help us to live our lives as Christians. The Bible says, "Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38 NIV).
Our coming King. The Bible teaches that Jesus will return to this earth; that he will judge everyone; and that he will be King forever. The Bible says, "...The dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (Revelation 21:3-4 NIV).
Stepping Stone ('phone 0161-477 2405), 90 Wellington Street, Stockport SK1 3AQ - A safe place for the vulnerable people of Stockport, primarily those who are affected by drugs and alcohol. (Interdenominational, staffed by volunteers from various local churches, including Stockport Elim.)
Free Bible Study Software
The Online Bible - You can download the entire Bible to your own computer. This is not merely a Bible, but also a concordance and Greek and Hebrew dictionaries. So this is a truly useful Bible Study tool, especially for preachers. Having said that, the basic program is over 10 megabytes long, which means that if you use a dial-up connection, it's going to take you over an hour to download it, at least(!) And that assumes that you have no connection problems.
E-Sword - an alternative to the Online Bible. It is an even bigger download than the Online Bible (so you really do need broadband to download it); but well worth having, because it's easier to use and it offers a superb variety of materials to support your Bible Study.
ISA - Interlinear Scripture Analyser - behind the very technical-sounding name is a useful piece of software which enables you too see, and investigate, the literal meaning of the Bible's Hebrew and Greek texts, from which our English Bible is translated. On the left, it gives the Hebrew or Greek word, in Hebrew/Greek and in English characters, with a translation of each word below the Hebrew/Greek. On the right and below, the KJV or one of a couple of other very literal translations. You don't need to know any Hebrew or Greek. The basic download was 7 megabytes - that's just about practical to download with a reasonably good dial-up connection (about 40 minutes). And well worth it if you want to understand the literal meaning of a Bible passage. If you don't want to download the lot, then you can just download an individual chapter in PDF format from the same website (and view it with the free Adobe reader, which most people already have).
The Berean Bible - a lot simpler than the software listed above, but with the download being only 1.5 megabytes, it is practical to download with a dial-up connection. Unlike the others, it doesn't offer Hebrew and Greek tools; but it's good as a replacement for a concordance (type in a word or phrase, and see where it occurs anywhere in the KJV - or you can download a handful of other translations).
Links for more technologically minded members!
The Cyberhymnal - an online hymnbook, which really is not difficult to use. You can find the words of your favourite traditional hymns, listen to the music, and find out about the hymnwriters.
The Bible in MP3 audio format - for those of you with Broadband and I-PODs, here is the entire Bible, in spoken format, to download free. You have the choice of a modern translation, or King James with or without music background. Or even Hebrew!
The Preachers' files - a place on the Internet where you can discuss Bible Study Questions.
Christian Bands - select the A-Z list of artists, then click on FaithStyle to hear a sound clip.
Sharesong - a music resource where writers share new songs.
18000 sermons from 700 classic preachers - read them if you have a dial-up connection, or listen to hundreds of them in MP3 format if you have broadband. Includes some Pentecostal preachers.
