Easy to understand
The EasyEnglish website, from Wycliffe Associates UK, contains bible commentaries, bible studies and bible books written in easy English. These books are evangelical and theologically checked. They are suitable for church leaders - or for anyone who wants to improve their english (or to know God better). This is a very valuable project - and I am involved with it, as an author.
"Soon" is an evangelical magazine to help people who are learning English. You can read the magazine on their website. Or you could even receive it by E-Mail.
Another site to help people learning English is EZNews. This site works with us at Wycliffe Associates UK; but is totally independent. It has news reports from around the world, as well as bible and other features
Massive websites
The Gospelcom website is a massive resource of all things to do with Christianity. The best part, in my view, is the Bible Gateway. Here, you can read bible passages in many different translations. You can print them out, to help you to study the bible. And you can compare different translations of the same passage.
Other large resources in the same vein include crosswalk.com, and awmach.org . And Scripture Resources can help you to find even more versions of the bible.
CCEL is a library of classic Christian books. You can download any of hundreds of books from 2000 years of Christianity. Some of these books - like John Wesley's Journal, or George Whitfield's sermons, or anything by CH Spurgeon - are incredibly valuable. The problem is that some of the other authors will not help you. You could get caught up in ancient theological arguments - and forget what the bible really teaches. You really need to have a good knowledge of Christian literature before you begin. Otherwise, stick to Wesley, Whitfield, Spurgeon and Bunyan - and get advice before you venture further.
Hymns and songs
The Cyberhymnal is rather good fun; giving the text of hundreds of classic hymns, with the stories behind them, and even playing the tune so that you can sing along! CCEL has a more formally structured hymns resouce, where you can (sometimes) even download the sheet music. (Useful if you're an organist.) However, more modern songs are almost always excluded for copyright reasons, sadly.
Finding more sites
There are many different Christian search engines, but my favourite is the rather selective one, named fishthe.net. This site has selected out other sites which are potentially valuable in evangelism. Churchnet will help you to find UK churches. And Kingdom Seek is useful for finding UK Christian organisations. Christ Sites is a very large search engine. However, as always, you need to be careful. Some of these organisations are better at editing out "problem" websites than others.
The Bible Outline, edited by Keith Simons (webmaster of this site), is now online at the EasyEnglish site:
